If you live in Kansas and like 4-wheeling, there aren't a whole lot of optoins. Tuttle Creek and Kansas Rocks are two good choices though. The former is public and free and the later is private and costs money.
But when the water levels are low enough, you can get out onto the Kansas River! Also known as the Kaw.
This is not legal. If you get stuck, you're screwed. If something breakes and you leak and bunch of gas/oil/antifreeze into the river, then you are an asshole. Don't be an asshole.
There's a boat ramp just North of the bridge between Lecompton and Perry. I don't know if this is totally legal its totally illegal, but, hey, it's a boat ramp! Maybe you're just looking for a good place to launch a boat? The sand was soft at first but got harder the closer I got to the water. So when going through the soft sand, don't slow down! It's easy to get stuck in the sand but its also easy to get unstuck. If you're not moving and the wheels are spinning, STOP! You're just digging a bigger hole to get yourself out of. Put it in LOW range and deflate your tires to 15 psi. If that doesn't work then get a shovel! If you don't have a low range, then don't go out onto the sand.
Tuttle Creek ORV (offroad vehicle area), however, has the Kaw beat. It's actually made for offroading and features a ton of awesome obstacles and geological features to get your rig over. It's free and open to the public, and closes at sun down.
